Dr Tony Mayne
Dr Mayne joined Paeroa Medical Centre as a managing partner 20 years ago and is a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners. As well as providing clinical teaching for GP registrars and medical students, he is a past examiner for the PRIMEX exams and is a facilitator for the GPEP1 education programme.
Dr Mayne also works for the College assessing doctors completing their Fellowship training in General Practice.
In the past, he has spent some time as a flying doctor in outback Australia. Dr Mayne has a special interest in skin cancers & minor surgery and runs a weekly surgery at the Paeroa Medical Centre. He currently works four days per week.
Dr Wendy Carroll
Dr Carroll is a managing partner and joined Paeroa Medical Centre over 20 years ago. She is a Fellow of the Royal college of General Practitioners, originally from the United Kingdom where she completed her training as a Registrar.
Dr Carroll enjoys all aspects of family practice – particularly the continuity of care, getting to know patients and their families and being part of the Paeroa community. She has developed special interests in palliative care, child and youth health and women’s health.
Dr Carroll is generally available at Paeroa Medical Centre 3 days a week, as she is also Clinical Director for Hauraki PHO. In this role she is involved in clinical projects, service development and quality initiatives with a focus on improving health and wellbeing for our community.
Dr Terry Hall
Dr Hall returned to the team on a permanent basis in December 2015 following his attachment here as a Registrar.
He enjoys all aspects of family health and commutes here to work 4 x days per week. Dr Hall is a valued team member at Paeroa Medical Centre and is often seen working alongside nursing and reception staff.
Dr Abhi Bhat
Dr Bhat was born in India and grew up in NZ. He graduated from Auckland Medical School in 2009 and has worked in Auckland Regional Hospitals in General Medicine, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Cardiology, Geriatrics, General Surgery and the Emergency Dept as a house surgeon, during which time he completed a Diploma in Paediatrics. He also worked as a Registrar in Anaesthesia & Intensive Care prior moving to Thames as a Medical Officer in the Emergency Dept.
Dr Bhat returned to Paeroa Medical Centre in December 2017 following his attachment here as a Registrar in training, alongside working shifts at Thames ED. He has placed his main focus in General Practice and will increase his availability for appointments up to four days per week commencing January 2019.
Dr Harry White
Dr White has been a much valued member of our Team since 15 Princes Street was built and opened over 23 years ago. Prior to this, he was well known in Paeroa as a sole Practitioner & family doctor, delivering many babies and has treated the local community through their life span, receiving a local Rotary community award for his diligence. Dr White has also been involved with the training of many of our Registrars & Interns during their placement here.
In December 2017, he stepped back from the Partnership to focus on his farm and enjoy a better work life balance, but remains here regularly covering up to 2-3 days per week.
Dr Theunis finished Medical School at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam in 2014, after which she worked at the ICU in Venlo for one year and provided a lot of emergency care.
She started her training to become a GP in March 2016 and finished in November 2018 and during those years worked in a big city practice and in a small rural practice. After training she moved to New Zealand with her husband and dog.
Dr Theunis is specialized in Emergency Care, since she followed an extracurricular course of one year in 2018, but considers herself as an all round GP.
Fiona, Nurse Team Leader
Fiona joined the Paeroa Medical Centre team in 2016. She is a registered nurse with over 30 years experience in a variety of areas.
She currently works 4 x days per week. Fiona enjoys the variety of work in primary health and working with an excellent team within a rural community.
Heather, Health Care Asst
Karen Mischefski, Practice Manager
Karen joined Paeroa Medical Centre in March of 2015 as Practice Manager with previous experience in management rolls across the Health Sector and has local connections to the community.
Karen is a member of the Practice Managers & Administrators Association of NZ. She is open & approachable, and available for feedback from our patients and community.
